About

The StepUp website has been developed in order to assist both students and their parents in making the move between primary and secondary school.

School transition programmes do happen in a lot of schools during a normal year but 2020 has proved far from normal.  This website should help young people to get a bit more ready for secondary and hopefully explain a lot of the things they want to know.  There may also be a few things they haven’t thought about.

StepUp is written first and foremost for young people but we’d encourage parents to use the site also.  Don’t feel that you have to look through the whole site all in one go, there’s a lot of information so come back to it from time to time.

StepUp is a part of the Planet Youth initiative that is underway in counties Roscommon, Mayo and Galway.  Planet Youth is an innovative public health project based upon the Icelandic Primary Prevention model and it has shown huge success in improving health and life outcomes for their young population.  Planet Youth commenced here in Ireland in 2018 and is being supported by the HSE, Tusla, our local County Councils and Education and Training Boards.  You can find a bit more information on the initiative at www.planetyouth.ie
