This is an information session that will assist parents in supporting their children with the school transition throughout the summer.
We’ll have three speakers and it’s a relaxed but informative presentation.
- Niamh O’Flanagan, a school chaplain at Glenamaddy Community School, will talk about life in secondary school, pastoral care and support. subject choices, mentoring.
- Helen Butler, a youth coach and information officer with Youthwork Ireland Galway, will have lots of practical tips for parents.
- Gina Dermody, an adolescent psychotherapist, will talk to any particular concerns that parents have. This might be about things like high levels of anxiety, learning supports, neurodiversity.
We’ll also do a quick demonstration of the Step Up website. The Step Up website is designed for both 6th class students and their parents to use now and also over the summer. It answers almost all of the questions they’ll have about the move.
We’ll cover a lot of ground in the hour and parents will have the opportunity to put questions to the panel through a chat feature. Parents can also submit questions in advance by email, if they prefer, to info@planetyouth.ie
